So I figured that there should be at least one Black Flag related post, right?
Earlier today I was cruising Ebay looking for some out of print books and hard to find zines when I stumbled upon this bad boy. I already purchased it a year ago when it came out. This was a split release between Heartworm Press and Kill Your Idols. It was a companion piece to a exhibit of the same name curated by Bryan Ray Turcotte hosted at Juanita and Juan’s in Philadelphia, PA.
It’s a 44 page black and white zine filled with classic show flyers, pictures and stories from 13 contributors. Some notable contributors are Max G. Morton, Sammy Winston and Howie Pyro ( he was with Sid Vicious the night he died). The best story, in my opinion, is Chris Leo’s breakdown of “Louie Louie” and his love/hate for the song.
Anyways, when I bought the zine there was two versions, just the regular zine and a “special edition”. I didn’t really care about extras like a CD with tribute songs and some stickers. I really don’t know why someone would be trying to sell the “special edition” for $99 on Ebay when you can still get the zine but with a copy of “Nervous Breakdown” for $75, if that’s your thing. If you stumble upon this somewhere, get it, good companion piece for any Black Flag collection.
